Neighbourhood Planning gives communities direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and shape the development and growth of their local area. They are able to choose where they want new homes, shops and offices to be built, have their say on what those new buildings should look like and what infrastructure should be provided, and grant planning permission for the new buildings they want to see go ahead.

The journey so far

The outcome of this process will have a significant positive impact on planning and development in Penryn for the foreseeable future. Because of this, we’ve been working to make sure it is as comprehensive, accurate and compliant as much as was possible.

Central to developing an effective and relevant plan were the consultations we ran with the community. The outcomes of the consultations allowed us to define a clear vision and establish working groups within the Town Council that explored key themes in greater depth. Supplementary consultation work was also carried out regarding proposed housing sites.

It has taken a while to reach this point, but it has been a worthwhile journey and we are nearly there. We’re hoping to secure a date from Cornwall Council for the referendum very soon.

You can find out more about the journey to reach this point in our neighbourhood plan consultation record.
