MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE PLANNING COMMITTEE OF PENRYN TOWN COUNCIL HELD ON MONDAY 20 DECEMBER 2021 AT 7:00PM IN THE TOWN HALL, HIGHER MARKET STREET, PENRYN

Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Grant (Vice-Chairman) – out of County, Bennett – family commitments, Doyle – unwell, Hernandez – out of County, Kirby – family commitments, Ronchetti – family commitments, Tucker – family bereavement, Wenmoth – unwell
70. Declarations of Interest and Dispensations
There were no declarations of interests or requests for dispensations.
71. Presentationn from Pendennis Leisure
Mr T Hicks, a local Penryn resident, explained that a number of community groups have come together to form a Community Interest Company (CIC) called Pendennis Leisure to put forward a bid to run the threatened Ships and Castles leisure centre.
Pendennis Leisure has put a proposal to Cornwall Council to take over the running of Ships and Castles to save the headland from development and look for the solution for providing a leisure centre for the area. Cornwall Council cabinet meets on December 15 to make a decision on the future of the leisure centre.
All organisations who have expressed interest during the consultation will be invited to submit detailed business case proposals and any supporting documentation by 31 January 2022.
The Chairman thanked Mr Hicks for his attendance and offered to pledge a letter of support for the campaign, after it has been approved at the next Full Council meeting on the 10 January 2022.
