Penryn Library carries a good selection of fiction and non-fiction for both adults and children. This includes a dedicated section for science fiction and graphic novels along with both large print books and audiobooks available on CD.
As well as books, Penryn Library is equipped with a Self-Service Kiosk and four Public Network Computers (PNC’s) that members of the public are welcome to use. There is also an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) computer, for reserving books from the online catalogue.
Printing, scanning and photocopying services are also available should you need them.
COVID–19 and visiting the library
Wearing a mask is optional. Hand sanitiser stations are freely available around the library for you to use. Please do not visit us if you have any COVID symptoms or are self-isolating.
Joining the Library
To borrow books and audiobooks you need to have a library card. Membership is free to everyone living, working or studying in Cornwall. You can fill in a form at the library, or you can join online on the Cornwall Council website.
Book reservations
You can reserve items through the online catalogue or by visiting the library. You’ll be sent an automated message by phone, email or post when your reservation arrives.
Penryn Information Service
Penryn Town Council operates an Information Service in the library. Available during usual library opening hours, the service can provide you with information on a range of Council services including:
- housing
- benefits
- council tax
- disabled parking badges
- refuse and recycling
We can also offer advice on how to get information about applying for Council services online. Our public computers can be used to fill in any online forms and we can also print documents out for you. Should you need it, a dedicated phone is available to make any direct enquiries with Cornwall Council.
Cornwall Council Payments
We are unable to take payments for Council services at the library. This includes Council Tax and Business Rates. The nearest PayPoints are Penryn Post Office and the Spar Shop on Lower Market Street.
Recycling containers and seagull proof bags
We do not provide either of these. Recycling containers and seagull bags can be requested on the Cornwall Council website. Seagull proof sacks for bin bags are no longer available from Penryn Library.
